Prayer
* LESSON
* HANDOUT #1: LORD'S PRAYER
* HANDOUT #2
Bible Memory Verse:
"...'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26
“Have faith in God…” Mark 11:22
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24
"For nothing is impossible with God.” Luke 1:37
"Jesus replied, 'What is impossible with men is possible with God.'" Luke 18:27
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” 1 John 5:14-15
HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE ACCEPTED JESUS AS YOUR SAVIOR AND YOUR LORD? If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, God is your Father. God is the perfect Father. He loves us so much that He will give us anything we ask for if He knows it is best for us.
If you are a child of God, you can talk to Him any time. You can thank Him, praise Him and worship Him. God is so big that He can help you with any big problem and any little problem. He created the universe and He takes care of the universe. He created the ant and He takes care of the ant. He created the bird and He takes care of the bird. Jesus says, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or stow away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” Matthew 7:26
Jesus disciples asked Him how to pray. He answered:
“This is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven..."
If we believe in Jesus, God is our Father and He wants us to call Him Father.
"...hallowed be your name,"
To hallow is to make holy or sacred. When we pray we should know that God is worthy of worship and reverence.
"...your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."
God’s kingdom is in heaven. It is also in the hearts of everyone that believes in Him. There are many people who do not have the kingdom of God in their hearts. They do not know Jesus. You can pray for them. That is what Jesus is doing right now. He is in heaven praying for people. We can be like Jesus and be praying for other people. In fact, that is the most important thing we can do. We can talk the God who created the world and who is able to do anything about other people. If there is someone you know that does not know Jesus, you can pray for them and God will work in their hearts. Some people take a long time to get to know Jesus, but pray for them every day. As long as a person is alive, they have a chance to know Jesus.
"Give us this day our daily bread."
God wants us to pray for what we need. He is always willing to help us.
"Forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors."
God wants us to forgive other people. He will forgive us when we ask so we wants us to forgive others.
"And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” Matthew 6:9-13
God wants us to pray for protection from the devil. He wants us to avoid temptation (not go places or do things that would cause us to do wrong). One of the ways to avoid temptation is to ask God to protect us.
One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished one of his disciples said to him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.’
He said to them, ‘When you pray say: Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.” Luke 11:2-4
Do you think God is able to give us anything we ask for? Yes, with God all things are possible.
Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him. As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out-the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, ‘Don’t cry.’ Then he went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still. He said, ‘Young man, I say to you, get up!” The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother. Luke 7:11-15
