A Sign of Freedom

Two soft white doves fly
They flash against the dark sky
The slaves pause to look

A whip cracks the air
A woman cries in great pain
Others blindly work

The moon gently shines
The doves flash brightly again
A sign of freedom

Harriet Tubman
"Moses is here," freedom's near
The slaves are hopeful

The doves precede them
Each step closer to freedom
Canada is near
